Country regulations

Every country has different rules. We know them all.

Pet import regulations vary enormously by country — from straightforward health certificate requirements to complex multi-month preparation processes. Here's an overview of key destination regions. Our specialists will provide a full briefing for your specific destination.

European Union

Moderate complexity

EU pet travel uses the EU Pet Passport system. Requirements include: microchipping, rabies vaccination (minimum 21 days before travel), and an EU health certificate. Travel from outside the EU requires additional preparation — contact us for country-specific requirements.

Quarantine: Generally no quarantine for compliant animals

Australia & New Zealand

High complexity

Among the strictest biosecurity regimes in the world. Requirements include: microchipping, rabies vaccination, rabies antibody titer test (results must meet specific thresholds), parasite treatments, and an import permit. Australia also requires a stay at an approved quarantine facility.

Quarantine: 10 days quarantine (Australia)

United States

Low to moderate complexity

The US requires a valid rabies vaccination for most dogs entering. Specific state regulations may also apply. Dogs traveling from countries with dog rabies must follow CDC import requirements. Cats have minimal import requirements at federal level.

Quarantine: Not typically required for compliant pets

Japan

Very High complexity

Japan has a highly detailed import process for dogs and cats. Requirements include: microchipping, two rounds of rabies vaccination, rabies antibody titer test, a 180-day waiting period from the titer test result, pre-import inspection reservation, and import inspection on arrival. Planning 7–8 months ahead is essential.

Quarantine: 180-day waiting period pre-travel; arrival inspection

United Kingdom

Moderate complexity

Post-Brexit, the UK requires a valid Great Britain Pet Travel Scheme health certificate issued by an Official Veterinarian within 10 days of travel, plus up-to-date rabies vaccination and microchipping. Travel from some countries may require additional treatments.

Quarantine: Not required for qualifying pets

Middle East & UAE

Moderate to High complexity

Each Gulf state has specific requirements. Generally: microchip, rabies vaccination, health certificate from an accredited vet, import permit, and some countries require mandatory vet inspection on arrival. Breed restrictions apply in many Gulf states — certain breeds are prohibited from entry.

Quarantine: Varies by country — typically 1–7 days

Flight & customs

Navigating airlines and customs on your behalf.

Booking a pet on an international flight is far more complex than booking a passenger ticket. CEVA's team manages airline selection, cargo booking, documentation submission, and customs clearance — removing every obstacle between your pet and their destination.

  • Airline research and selection based on breed and route safety
  • Cargo reservation and welfare endorsement coordination
  • IATA-compliant travel crate consultation and sourcing
  • Customs pre-clearance submission and documentation
  • Airline cargo check-in managed by our airport team
  • Arrival customs clearance and veterinary inspection support

Important: Brachycephalic breeds

Flat-faced breeds (Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs, Persians, etc.) face airline restrictions. Our team will always assess your pet's specific health and recommend the safest option — which may include ground transport for certain routes.

Quarantine management

Quarantine made as easy as possible.

If your destination requires quarantine, CEVA manages the entire process — from booking approved quarantine facilities to arranging permitted welfare visits and coordinating the final release and delivery.

Facility booking

We work only with government-approved quarantine facilities that meet our welfare standards. Facilities are pre-vetted for cleanliness, enrichment provision, and professional animal care.

Welfare visits

Where permitted by regulations, CEVA arranges welfare visits during quarantine periods so your pet maintains human contact. We coordinate timing and access on your behalf.

Release & delivery

At the end of quarantine, CEVA coordinates the official release inspection and collects your pet directly from the facility for final delivery to your new home.
